"சும்மா, கரப்பான் பூச்சி- ன்னே சொல்லிக்கிட்டு இருக்காதீங்க, எல்லாம் படம் நல்லாயிருக்குன்னுதான் சொல்றாங்க.." - When Viji shouted, I thought, let's see this movie 96, in SUNNXT. Within 15 minutes, I realized, this movie is something else, and started watching carefully. At the end..., again watched from the beginning. Very few good directors follow certain emotional techniques (of hitting one's mind without dialogues) have been distributed across this movie. Just mind blowing. It is a romantic thriller, creates an impact even after a day of watching the movie. In fact, now, I changed the mobile ring-tone into 96 theme. Although, it is just a simple high school romance + alumni meet story, couple of unique construct that I noticed are, 1. Anticipated climax for obvious reasons, however the way in which scenes were built converts the movie as a thriller of, அட , ஒரு வேளை , இவங்க கடைசில ஒண்ணா சேர்திருவாங்களோ..? 2. Thrisha had a very strong role (and has done exceptionally well), which spans from trying her best to be normal in every scene (with the exploding love inside) all the way to broken at the end (airport). Her emotional quotient is gradually built across the movie with most relevant screenplay. 3. The most brilliant scene: Trisha’s story-telling to the students, with her “actual wish” – indirectly conveying the Vijay Sethuapthy that it was not her fault. 4. The brilliant dialogue: For the question, " நீ ரொம்ப தூரம் போய்ட்டியா? , he answers, “இல்ல நீ விட்ட இடத்துலதான் நான் இன்னும் இருக்கேன்.. " 5. Seamless connect of past and current, although it happened multiple times. 6. No dialogues on most places, however hammered the messages. 7. Thrisha’s initiation of யமுனை ஆற்றிலே...song in the right time. And so on.. I just took a look at the title, 96. 9 and 6. These two numbers are “inverted mirror image” of each other. In the evolution, transposable elements (TE) are inverted palindrome DNA sequence, they get attracted, but pair with other complementary sequence. The characters in 96 are actually similar to transposable elements. They would never pair, and even if they come together, they get separated by the replication (marriage?!) process. 96 is truly a commendable milestone in Movies' history. And a nice கரப்பான் பூச்சி.
